On Thursday, YouTube released YouTube Insight, a video analytics tool created to help posters understand where their viewers are located and how they found their videos. Like data analytics programs, the data collected through Insight is expected to help online marketers and advertisers better target their videos to the correct regions and demographics.
From what I can tell, this program is still far from the detailed information you can get from Google Analytics, but it’s a start toward providing better tools for optimizing YouTube content. Google will still need to work through the privacy issues around revealing too much user data to others so it may be a while before a more fleshed out analytics program is available.
